What is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA)?
A Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) is an individual who is recommending investment decisions and taking fees for their advisory services. RIAs are required to register with the SEC and fulfill certain obligations, such as reporting and audits. Venture funds are typically exempt from registering with the SEC if they meet certain requirements (see 3(c)(1) Fund).
